Both history buffs, whether your love is pre-historic, classical or contemporary and lovers of classic literature will find themselves in their element in a region who's past citizens include Montaigne, Montesquieu and Mauriac. You will be delighted by the area's numerous historical sights: castles, walled towns and mills, as well as specialized museums like the Parchment and Illumination Museum in Duras or the Medieval Fortress (Bastide) Museum in Monflanquin.
Many other famous people have called the region around the estate home at one time or another. We cannot forget to mention Marguerite Donnadieu, also known by her pen name of Marguerite Duras, who spent two years of her youth living in the nearby Plasterer's House with her mother and brothers after the death of her father.
The Association Marguerite Duras -whose headquarters is to Duras-organizes various cultural events on and around his work, in relation with specialists of Marguerite Duras. A tribute to the author is held every year in the month of May: "The Meetings of Duras" (exhibits, conferences, debates, films, parts of theater… and a lounge of the book open to the contemporary literature).
